Legendary Pictures Announces Gaming Projects
Appoints head of development arm

Legendary Pictures has announced that it is very interested in getting into videogame development and that a former Electronic Arts boss would lead its new unit.

The fresh division will be set up in the offices that Legendary has on the Warner Bros. lot and all the projects will be released for a variety of platforms, from gaming consoles to mobiles and the Internet. Some of the content will be based on the movies that Legendary is creating while another part will be entirely new intellectual properties.

Leading the videogame push for the company is Kathy Vrabeck, who used to be the president of Activision Publishing and also led the Casual label of the publisher Electronic Arts. She has over eight years of experience in leadership positions, which the young Legendary division sorely needs.

At the moment, the company is said to be working on two movie adaptations of videogame franchises. A World of Warcraft movie has been talked about for quite some time, although lately no fresh information has appeared and the project seems to be on hold, and a Gears of War big screen adaptation is being worked on, with The Rock being a favorite for the role of Marcus Fenix.

Until now, Legendary, which has a financing deal with Warner Bros., has created such hits as Superman Returns, 300, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight. The company is currently working on creating Where the Wild Things Are, The Hangover, Jonah Hex and Clash of the Titans.

It seems that the first movie that will have a Legendary created videogame attached to it will be The Lost Patrol, a supernatural thriller set to be released in 2010. Legendary is talking about creating content related to The Lost Patrol for mobiles and the online medium, in addition to building a videogame around the plot of the movie.
