Blizzard Is In For A Lengthy Battle: Mythic Entertainment

Forget the Console wars between Microsoft and Sony! The massively Multiplayer online gaming scene is beginning to get very competitive. A few short days ago, Paul Sams, the executive from Blizzard had pointed out that more than half of the subscribers who left World of Warcraft for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning had come back.

But Mythic Entertainment's chief executive officer, Mark Jacobs, has sadi that Blizzard is in for a lenghty battle. He told gaming news website GamesIndustry.biz:

Quote
"This is the beginning of a rather lengthy battle with the guys at Blizzard. We are in this space to be successful and, when you have a competitor that is as successful and important to the games industry as WOW has been, you don't go into this space unless you're willing to spend money and spend time and really compete against them."

According to Jacobs, it is not a sprint but a marathon. The head of Mythic had earlier explained that when it comes to massively multiplayer online games, people play multiple titles.

Well my take on the cues is this -

#1 some people came back from being hammered. #2 more came back from playing no MMORPG for sometime and are rechecking out WoW afer playing Xbox, playstation w/e.

The same thing happened last expansion. WoW upped the number of people a server could handle by beefing them up as the playable area was increasing by 40-50% but sooo many people came back that soon enough we had cues and then a free server transfer option.

The same thing is no doubt happening here all the people that have dropped off the face of the earth reactivate their acct a month ahead of time then buy expansion. Some will just level to 80. Some will do that and PvP a little while or clear all the 5 man content. And then there's the real suckers like us that go on & on chasing the ever-moving carat on a stick of "end-game"
